My TIU Retreat Experience: Day 3

My TIU Retreat Experience: Day 3

The night before after the beach dinner, a few girlfriends and I stayed on the beach.  We were actually the last ones to leave and we had to take a special shuttle back to the hotel!  We stayed up SO late laughing, dancing, and getting caught in the sprinklers. :) Needless to say, I was EXHAUSTED on Day 3, but so ready for what was to come!  We started the day with breakfast provided by the hotel, Elli Quark, and Suja juice.  After eating, we tied our laces and headed out to the beach to start our Rosé 5K!  So many girls were sporting their blue and pink #teamKCT headbands in support of our TIU sister Kailen who had recently lost her battle with cancer.  It was beautiful to see how we had all come together for this special run.

Our race course was on a loop, so we repeatedly passed by a group of boy scouts camping.  They were all quite excited to see 400 women running past them over and over and over again!  It was hilarious.  When we finished, we were greeted by K&K and awarded an adorable TIU heart medal!  We also got a special Rosé 5K tank with a small glass of rosé!

After our pancake breakfast, I looked at my schedule.  The next activity was surfing - the activity I was dreading the most.  I had contemplating the entire trip whether I should skip out or not.  I'm not a strong swimmer, and the idea of being tossed by the waves frightened me.  But when else would I get the chance to do this HERE with the support of my TIU sisters?  Plus, Lainey went with me, so I felt much more at ease.  I decided to go.

As we were going over our lesson, I had knots in my stomach.  I practiced on the beach over and over again.  Stay in the middle, balance your weight, stand up correctly, and...oh yeah...DON'T DROWN.  We separated into groups of 4 and 5.  My instructor was this awesome lady who really gave us a lot of individual attention.  As I started paddling out, I couldn't help but imagine these tiny waves as giant 10 foot swells.  I swallowed hard and made up my mind.  I was going to at least try it.  If I wiped out, oh well.  At least I could say I tried.

Well, guess what?  I did it.  Not only was I able to stand up on my first try, but I stood up 3 out of the 5 times!  Our instructor was so helpful in telling us when we should paddle and stand, so I'm pretty sure it would've been way harder without that guidance, but...still!  I am SO proud of myself for facing my fears and doing something new.  It was such a rush, and I can't wait to try it again some day!

When we got back, I skipped volleyball to spend some time at the pool with my girl Lainey.  Then we got ready for the Farewell Dinner.

Already the feelings of sadness were setting in.  I couldn't believe this was my last night here.  I wore a lacy Urban Outfitters dress that I had been saving for a while, with some black pumps.  It was a perfect night.  I got to chat and spend time with all the girls I had become friends with over the course of the weekend.  My favorite part was dancing the night away with my girls, and being the last ones on the dance floor.  Later that night, we all sat on the patio and already started reminiscing of our memories here.  As the night died down, we headed back to our hotel rooms.  Tomorrow we'd say good bye.

My TIU Retreat Experience: Day 2

After an exciting first day, we woke up early for our first BOOTY CALL!  For those who don't know, the TIU Booty Call is what we call our morning workouts.  We put on our TIU Retreat shirts provided by Fabletics (so comfy!) and headed to the beach for a sweat sesh. K&K kicked our butts!  "Who's READY...to get SWEATY?!"  And sweaty we were!  We did a total body routine along with an amazing mix by DJ Alex Ink.  After being covered in sand and smiles, we rolled up our free yoga mats and headed to our first scheduled activity.  My first activity was Soul Cycle!  I was DYING to try out Soul Cycle for the first time after hearing so many great things about it, and it did not disappoint!

Walking into Soul Cycle, we were fitted for special cycling shoes that clipped into our custom fitted bikes.  Our instructor had such an energy really kept us going!  Even though I had JUST done a workout, I was able to keep up thanks to the heart pounding music, everyone's enthusiasm, and a surprise visit from K&K!  There's a SC in San Francisco, so I'll definitely want to try it out again soon.  After our workout, we stopped by Pressed Juicery for a frozen juice treat.  AMAZINGLY YUM.

After this, I headed to my next activity: Stand Up Paddleboarding (another first for me)!  It was much easier than I thought it would be, and I even participated in the SUP Relay Race - 10 squats, paddle to the next buoy, 10 push ups, paddle to the next buoy, 10 second plank, and a final paddle to the finish.  I'm proud to say our team WON (Go team 2!)! #TIUSUPchamps

After all the activities were finished, Lainey and I got ready in our hotel room to a sweet 90s mix of Destiny's Child, NSync, and Usher.  I wore my first crop top (!!!) because...well, it would be all ladies there, so I ain't got no shame!  We took a shuttle to a beautiful beach where we were surprised with a beautiful piece of Kendra Scott jewelry (Thank you, Tone It Up!).  Later that evening, singer/songwriter Kelley James serenaded us with amazing covers, original music, and plenty of hilarious freestyling.  The BEST part of the evening, however, went to Mr. Bobby Gold.

Bobby was called up to the front to accompany Kelley James on guitar.  After the song, we all thought Bobby would be singing a song of his own...until he called up Karena.  Speculation was in the air up until the point when Bobby started telling Karena how much she inspires him.  OH. MY. GOODNESS.  HE'S PROPOSING!  THIS IS HAPPENING!  As he got down on one knee, we all started screaming/crying/clapping/cheering.  Karena said YES and they danced to a special song right there on stage.  It was incredible, and I am so grateful that Bobby would allow us to witness this special event.  After the proposal, Katrina said to us, "If there's ever any doubt whether you're family...you're FAMILY."  Yup.  Not a dry eye on the beach.  It was a perfect way to end Day 2.

My TIU Retreat Experience: Day 1

Today marks my official day back in the "real world".  No more fitness activities, no more girl time 24/7, no more whipping and nae nae'ing at the wee hours of the morning.  Can you tell I'm having major #TIUretreat withdrawals? Having the opportunity to attend this year's Tone It Up Retreat has made me forever grateful.  I got to meet my beautiful trainers, Karena and Katrina whose genuineness and sincerity blew me away.  I pushed myself mentally and physically to try new things and conquer fears that I had (ahem, surfing!).  Best of all, I made new friends from all over the world, and really connected with a few that I will undoubtedly stay friends with for years to come.

On my flight out of Oakland, I met two #TIUBayArea girls.  Once we arrived to SNA, our little group of 3 multiplied and multiplied as more TIU girls joined our group.  It was crazy!  You would just see a girl and ask, "TIU?" and she would say, "YES!"

After catching a cab to the hotel, the van door slid open and I saw my TIU bestie Lainey!  Lainey and I first met as Bikini Series accountability partners and have stayed connected ever since.  I SCREAMED when I saw her!  We also ended up being paired as roomies!

After waiting and sweating in the sun for what felt like HOURS, we finally got to meet K&K and take a picture with them which made it all worth it!  After that we got TWO huge bags of swag and shopped at the TIU pop-up shop.  SO much new stuff to buy, but I was careful and just made it out with Perfect Fit protein and a cute tank top.

After that, Lainey and I went to our hotel room and opened up our TIU swag bags.  It was like Christmas!  We got new running shoes from Asics, TIU clothes, Oakley sunglasses, a super cute Corksicle TIU water bottle, SO many Fabletics clothes (amazingly comfy and cute!), SELF magazine subscription and beach towel, Maaji backpack, Hot Water swimsuit, socks, food yums, Elli Quark coupons, and more!

We spent the rest of the day meeting other TIU girls and hanging out at the pool before heading to our picturesque dinner by the water.  I met lots of #TIULA girls through Lainey, as well as a handful of ladies that I've been dying to meet.  It's amazing how I "know" these girls from Instagram, and we immediately clicked and became friends!  That's the power of the Tone It Up community!
