I'm THIRTY!! I just had my 30th birthday last week, and let me tell you... It's been a whirlwind of emotions! Most people would tell me not to worry...it's just one more year. But there was something about no longer being in my 20s. I was entering a new DECADE, not just another year.
I did a lot of self reflection. Had I achieved all the things I've wanted to achieve so far? Had I traveled enough? Where did I envision I would be at this age? Honestly, it was getting me down. But then I had a great conversation with a coworker at work. She told me to turn around and look at my 20s. Look at all the things I achieved, the ways I grew, and how God has led me through it all. She was right. During my 20s, I graduated from college, learned a lot of relationship lessons, met my incredible husband, had the most amazing jobs working with children, got married, finally got my dream job, traveled to another country for the first time, am currently setting up my first Etsy shop, and I'm currently the healthiest I've ever been. The person I was at 20 is unrecognizable (in a good way!). I tend to be a pessimist, and having someone challenge me to look at my past with gratitude was exactly what I needed. Then she told me to look ahead to my future. The door is wide open. I'll have new experiences, new opportunities, and new ways to grow. I have my whole life ahead of me.
Okay, so what's with the weird blog post title? Well, to help ring in the new decade, my little sister threw me an adorable party with a few of my closest girlfriends. Let me first tell you a little bit about my sister Brittany. She's weird, crazy, and insanely creative. She works at a kid's shoe company staging for photoshoots, designing shoes, helping with trade shoes, and merchandising. She can make just about anything out of rubbish and make it cute. I can always count on her to give me the best advice at styling anything because she's just intuitive about aesthetics. When I saw the invitation (which she hand painted) for my party, I knew I was in for a treat. When I got there, I was blown away at how she styled this party. That being said, all of us ended up saying, "Well of course it looks this amazing. It's Brittany."
Thank you, Brittany (and friends!), for an amazing birthday party! 30 isn't so bad when you're surrounded by those you love!
